Five men tried to smuggle half a tonne of cocaine worth more than £40 million into the UK on a private jet from Colombia, a court has been told.

The group arrived at Farnborough airport in Hampshire on January 29 this year having allegedly flown in from the South American country’s capital, Bogota.

Stephen Neil, 53, and Martin Neil, 49, brothers from Poole, Dorset, deny one charge of fraudulent evasion of a prohibition in relation to a Class A controlled drug.

They are on trial at Woolwich crown court alongside Alessandro Iembo, 28, an Italian from Bournemouth, and Victor Franco-Lorenzo, 40, and Jose Ramon Miguelez-Botas, 56, two Spaniards from Bournemouth and Valladolid respectively. All three men deny the same charge.
